Find coffee by its DNA.

It started after a trip to Salzburg, where I tried an Arabica and Robusta blend that I really liked — nothing like the harsh, rubbery Robusta I'd been warned about. Back in London, I went looking for a good pure Robusta and quickly discovered that finding specific coffees wasn't as easy as I expected. Every roaster had their own little corner of the internet, and none of them talked to each other.

Then I broke my foot and spent two months mostly living on an inflatable bed in my living room. That gave me far too much time to read about coffee origins, varietals and processing methods — and, unsurprisingly, to buy far too much coffee.

If I wanted a Pink Bourbon, a coffee from Zambia, or something processed anaerobically, I had to search through individual UK roaster websites one by one.

That was the actual problem, and it never went away on its own. So I built the thing I wanted to use.

SingleOriginDNA is a searchable index of single-origin coffees from UK roasters. You can explore coffees by origin, varietal and process, click on any attribute to find similar coffees, or select a roaster to browse everything they currently sell — with every price standardised to 250g so you can actually compare like for like.

It's still a work in progress — new coffees get added as roasters add them, and mistakes get fixed as they're found. What started as a coffee obsession has somehow become a data project, a website, and a very good excuse to keep buying coffee.
